Pittsford artist wins 1000 Islands Plein Air Competition
Barbara Jablonski, of Pittsford, won first place in the fourth annual Clayton-1000 Islands Outdoor Painting Competition, sponsored by the River Muse Art Gallery.
Twenty-five artists from New York and New Jersey participated in the four-day competition. All the paintings were made “en plein air”, that is to say painted in “open air”, on the site of the subject of the painting in the Thousand Islands region.
Jablonski painted subjects and sites along the St. Lawrence River. Her winning oil painting, “Boat at the Clayton Yacht Club,” was painted just before sunset at the private yacht club.
“The sky was covered in clouds, producing very subtle but beautiful colors,” she said. “The weather was extremely hot and humid, but the light was magical. ”
Jablonski is often seen at Pittsford Harbor painting the architecture and the canal. She also enjoys painting boats and views of lakes and rivers. Her paintings on regional subjects can be seen at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, the Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery in Canandaigua and the Clothesline Booth No. 4. Her paintings at the 1000 Island Competition are on display at the River Clayton’s Muse Gallery.
