Mimbres Press of Western New Mexico University launches its first book
SILLVER CITY, NM – Mimbres Press of Western New Mexico University officially launches its first publication on Thursday, September 30, 2021. The mission of the press is to publish works of enduring value that reflect intellectual, creative, cultural and natural heritage from the southwest. The list will include books of general interest, as well as works of fiction and poetry.
The inaugural book is The Algorithm of I: Poems by Jack Crocker. Crocker was the Silver City and Grant County Poet Laureates from 2017 to 2019. His writing has appeared in The Texas Review, Southern Poetry Review, Mississippi Review, and The Cimarron Review, among others, and his previous collection, The Last Resort, was published by Texas Review Press in 2009. He is president and vice-president of academic affairs at the University of Western New Mexico.
The Algorithm of I, whose themes include exile, art versus artifice, aging and memory, has been described as “a journey of reflection… which turns nostalgia with purpose and questions life, faith and human evolution ”.
The launch party will take place at Light Hall, WNMU, Silver City, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. , Dr Joseph Shepard, Dr Marvel Harrison and JJ Amaworo Wilson. The program, free and open to the public, will feature music and readings, and will end with sales and autographs of The Algorithm of I. Masks must be worn indoors.
