This Lucian Freud painting is a meeting of minds that lasted 40 years of admiration shared between the two influential British artists of the 20th century, Lucian Freud and David Hockney.

Painted in 2002, when Freud was 80 and Hockney was 65, the peer-to-peer portrait provides a fascinating window into the tale of an episodic friendship spanning centuries.
