Collector’s auction generates high sales
Modern Indian Art from AstaGuru: The Collectors Choice auction ended with an impressive result. The auction generated a total sale value of Rs 28,99,87,021 ($ 4,027,510). With an extensive collection of 160 works of art by famous artists spanning the gamut of Indian modernism, a substantial number of lots have been the subject of enthusiastic auctions.

The best-selling lot in the auction is from SH Raza and titled Bindu. Executed in 1982, the work is composed in the signature style of the artist who has become highly synonymous with modern Indian art. Raza’s works from his Bindu series remain among the most sought-after works in the modern Indian landscape, with the current lot selling for Rs 1,58 33,674.

MF Husain’s exemplary work titled ‘Family’, lot 148, featured in the auction and fetched an impressive bid of Rs 1,31,31,146. This remarkable work, acrylic on canvas, which won the second highest price of the auction, features a larger-than-life family portrait by Husain. What makes this work extremely rare is the fact that the artist included himself in the composition.
