Art exhibition hopes to bring joy to patients at Perth Children’s Hospital

Marie Botsis-Premici and Gino Premici have first-hand experience of the importance of positive distractions and kind gestures to brighten a child’s day in the hospital.

The couple spent many difficult months with their daughter Cleo Eve at Perth Children’s Hospital and decided to create a non-profit art exhibition Joy in her honour.

Curated by artist Jo Meredith, Joy features 50 inspiring works of art, all with the goal of sharing the joy that art can bring to children who are patients at PCH.

Thirty artists from across Australia brought their talent to shine their artwork alongside drawings created by children in the Starlight Express Room for the show.

Funds raised from the exhibit will reinstate the Lester Prize Hospital category and provide funds for art programs to be run by the Starlight Children’s Foundation for children who are patients at PCH, including art classes. given by professional artists.

“Through our fundraiser, we honor and celebrate Cleo’s life by sharing the gift of art with hospitalized children who may be going through a very difficult time,” said Botsis-Premici.

“We’ve seen how difficult hospital stays can be for children and their families, so it’s about making things brighter and creating positive experiences for these children while they’re in hospital.

“We are also very pleased to share the wonderful work that Starlight has done using art as therapy and the Lester Prize in developing passionate young artists in our community.”

After months of planning, the exhibit opened on February 14 at The Montauk Lighting Co. in West Leederville and Premici said their company’s The Townhouse studio space had never been so cheerful.

“The beautiful colors and shapes of the artworks are a sight to behold,” he said.

“We are very grateful to the artists who shared their works. Please check them out, follow their creative journeys and support them. They are amazing people.
